BarkBox Review + Coupon Code – February 2013

February Barkbox

Baxter and Buddy received their Barkbox yesterday and, as usual, we tore right into it. If you don’t already know, Barkbox is a monthly subscription box for dogs. Packages start at $29/month, $23/month for 3-months or $18/month for 6-months. Yes, there are subscription boxes for dogs. And cats. There was just a Groupon for Barkbox (I posted about it on FB because people always ask), so if you missed it, that sucks.

The Box

This month’s Barkbox was bigger than the other ones I have received. I didn’t realize they had different sized boxes, but it makes sense that they do.

First Look

Unlike when I make B or L wait while I take pictures, Baxter and Buddy don’t mind. At least they don’t do anything about it if they do care. They just stand there are stare at me.

The Information Card

I’ve said it before, but I’ll tell you again, Barkbox doesn’t have monthly themes. They did suggest that you sit down with your dog this month and discuss the importance about dental heath because February is National Pet Dental Health Month. Good to know!

Here’s what was in February’s Barkbox:

~Pet Qwerks Krinkle and Squeak Newspaper ($11.90): This squeaks and makes loud krinkle noises?  What’s not to like?  I’ve found that the dogs (and WB for that matter) are drawn to loud toys.  In fact, I saw WB eyeing this when I opened the box.

~Aussie Naturals Candy Ball – Small ($7.99): This is a toy in a toy and I am fascinated by it.  When your dogs get through the top two-tone wool layer (and you know they will), there is a solid wound Wooly Cotton Ball inside.  I think the furries are going to be surprised that the toy doesn’t get tossed once they break through.

~Wet Noses Dog Treats (Cheddar and Agave & Pear) ($3.98): These organic treats are free of corn, wheat and soy.  And once again, it reminds me of good my dogs have it!  As a side note, since you all like Baxter, I got all worried that his nose wasn’t wet the other night and was this close to calling doggy-911.  Turns out it was because he was sleeping.  Good thing I didn’t call.

~Get Naked Super Antioxidant Dog Treats ($6.79): These chews help to remove plaque, tartar & freshen breath and are kinda perfect for the this month!  Baxter (and Buddy really) get yelled at at every vet appointment about their teeth.  I suspect it’s partially because the vet wants us to pay for a cleaning while they sedate the dogs which is like $300, but we’re going to give these treats a go instead ;).

~$10 Wag.com Coupon:  I am going to count this in the value of the box since it does not appear there is a minimum order requirement.  I’ve never ordered from wag.com, so I am curious to check them out.

All totaled, I came up with a value of $40.66 for the February Barkbox.  If you paid $29 and just got one month it’s a deal and if you paid $18 because you got a 6-month subscription, you got an even better deal.  Once my Groupon ran out, I told myself I’d cancel.  But yeah, that’s not happening.  The furries love Barkbox and so do I.

Wow! Looks like fun stuff! Now I just need a dog 🙂

  2. Meredith

Do you know of a subscription box for cats?

      @Meredith:

      I believe Petslovetoys.com does a cat box?

I love Barkbox!!! I thought about canceling but just can’t pull the trigger. The octopus from last months box is Mr. Moo’s favorite toy and the fact of the matter is I love spoiling Mr. Moo and I get sub boxes and Tim gets sub boxes so why shouldn’t the dog too, lol!!! I’m still waiting for mine to arrive and its taking its sweet time… Just left KY.

Great picture of the dogs with the barkbox!!

Your furries are much better behaved than Hopper. She would NEVER sit patiently by her Bark Box…Instead of the newspaper & toy within a toy, she got a large kiwi/penguin (B & I are still arguing about what it is) that hobbles & squeaks and a green plastic ring for her teeth (which Connor promptly threw in the air & over the fence into the neighbor’s yard) 🙂 That newspaper sounds pretty cool!

They look so happy with their box! 🙂

Thank for you the Groupon notification, because I have been holding out for it. We signed up and will be getting our first box in March. We’ve also tried Petslovetoys.com (I like that I can skip months) and Bugsy’s Box (which is fairly good, but we canceled it). My only small problem is that our Shepherd Mix DESTROYS toys in about 20 minutes. So we are constantly getting toys that don’t last at all. But I guess it is ok because she also get bored with toys easily and then eats my daughter’s toys instead. And usually since expensive or meaningful toy…like one of my old My Little Ponies, or the brand new stuffed animal, or Kaylee’s favorite pair of shoes… 😉

I am new to barkbox, I just received the Feb 2013, for my first one. I ordered one to try from wag.com. I just came from youtube and saw the medium and large size haul, I ordered the medium. I was wondering do they switch up the items from one box to another, because my medium had totally different items than the medium barkbox on youtube for this month.

Also, I’d like to point out even though I ordered it from wag.com, it was shipped directly from barkbox.

I just found out about Barkbox and found your review very helpful. I might give it a try for a month. Your Yorkie looks very much like my Gidget. Adorable! I have a Shih Tzu and a Yorkie and I know they will love Barkbox!

I found your page after googling Barkbox reviews. Thanks for the in-depth look! I’m still on the fence whether it’s worth it or not, so I have to keep debating :/

As a side-note, it’s insane how much your two dogs look like mine. I have a yorkie named Owen and a bichon poo named Britney. Her face looks a LOT like your dog on the left. I thought that was a little crazy! 🙂

I love barkbox, but tried to cancel to save $. They lowered my rate for next month by $10! So, I’m still in!
